Citizens and the city in ecological transition
Towards a collective strategic platform
Towards a collective strategic platform
In the context of ecological and political crisis, the cities are in need of active citizens, involved experts, ethical entrepreneurs and a visionary administration, and to collaborate for building practical solutions on short, medium and long term. In the local context, these types of collaborations are isolated, partial, small-scale and limited in impact.
This process aims to open a space for dialogue and action from the citizens and professionals towards the public administration, while encouraging also the economical actors to join the systemic change based on
The ecological transition is a process of evolution towards a new economic and social model, a model of sustainable development that changes our ways of consuming, producing, working and living together to meet the major environmental challenges we face today: those of climate change, scarcity of resources, the accelerated loss of biodiversity and the multiplication of human and environmental health risks.

These principles for action are part of a document which is the first result of a collective effort. The chart exposed here at BETA 2020 is a first step in activating this network for change, where citizens, groups, civic initiatives and experts are sharing applied knowledge and a model of good practice, working as a reference for future actions, public policies and collective initiatives.
The Seminar and The Workshop
On 15-16th November 2019, the seminar “Citizens and the City in Ecological Transition” took place in Bucharest. Initiated by Doina Petrescu and Constantin Petcou from Atelier d’Architecture Autogérée (aaa), the seminar was organized in the framework of Bucharest Annual by studioBASAR, together with Association for Urban Transition (ATU), with the support of Romanian Order of Architects Bucharest. The seminar started with a series of presentations and discussions structured by 3 themes – Participative Governance, Ecology and Urban Commons – and continued with a workshop where participants proposed principles and actions based on the existing situation in Bucharest.
On 22nd of February 2020 a series of workshops followed which aimed to validate the collective product realized in the previous seminar and to establish a platform for urban strategies , to set its direction for actions and to draft possible activation scenarios.
The project now continues at BETA2020 between September 25 and October 25, 2020 and we invite you to join.
